The NFL is serious about not allowing it's players to be tied to gambling in any way. In fact, the NFL has been sparred a Pete Rose or Michael Jordan embarrassment largely in part due to the strict nature of their anti-gambling policy.
The powers that be in the NFL are so adamant that no players are involved in gambling that they are asking numerous players to give up their interest in a gambling project.
Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reports that at least 25 NFL players could be required to give up their interests in an Alabama bingo and entertainment operation that was shut down in 2010, and that could re-open later this year.
Per Cole, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said, ?If it were to be determined that an NFL employee had made an investment in violation of league policy on gambling-related activities, that individual would be directed to withdraw the investment and it would be reviewed for potential discipline."
While this will not have a major impact on the season, it's definitely something of interest in a lockout-filled world.
