2011 NBA Mock Draft: Full Projections with Malcolm Lee to Boston Celtics
I will continue to preach my multiple position-player message for the rest of this mock draft. Malcolm Lee to the Boston Celtics is my newest installment.
The problem wasn't with Boston's Big Three this year, the problem was when they came off the court, their bench squandered away everything they had built. This would rush the veterans back on the floor, increase their minutes/workload, and wear them down at the end of games.
The Celtics need to fill their bench with dynamic players who can play at least two positions. Here's a mathematical breakdown of what I mean:
Rondo needs to be on the floor 36 minutes a night. Ray Allen can still do 34, Paul Pierce 33 and keep Kevin Garnett at 30. Jermaine O'Neal, for health/injury sake, should probably be at 28. That means there are 12 minutes of backup point guard play, 14 shooting guard, 15 small forward, 18 power forward and 20 center minutes to be fulfilled.
Glen Davis takes the 20 center minutes and fills in five of the power forward minutes. That puts him at 25, he's happy and the team is happy with what they get from him.
Jeff Green takes the other 13 power forward minutes along with all 15 small forward minutes. He's at 28. Once again, the player is happy and the team is happy because they can rest their older parts.
Delonte West grabs 10 shooting guard minutes and eight of the point guard minutes. West probably would like to see more floor time, but tough luck, he's not going to find it in Boston.
This leaves four minutes left of point guard minutes and four left of shooting guard. Instead of bringing in another point guard and another shooting guard, they should go with Malcolm Lee from UCLA who can do both.
As for eight minutes, he is probably destined to play twice or three times that amount in the NBA at some point. If he shows he needs more, I'm sure the Celtics organization would be fine resting Allen a few extra minutes a night.
